2024-2025 Programs

We are happy to offer the following programs open to students in Kindergarten-12th grade who are either (a) enrolled in the Westford public school system or (b) are Westford residents enrolled in an accredited public, private, or home-school program.

Instructional

These are meant to be fun instructional leagues for younger players who don't quite have the skills to scrimmage or play.  These leagues are open to boys and girls that live in Westford and/or go to Westford schools. Participation is capped based on volunteer numbers.

Instructional registration is open from early September until 11:45pm on January 3rd, or when capacity limits are reached.

Recreational

These are meant to be fun and semi-competitive recreational leagues for those interested in playing basketball with and against their friends. These leagues are open to boys and girls that live in Westford and/or go to Westford schools. Everyone interested will be placed on a team, unless divisions have reached capacity limits. Divisions may have capacity limits due to gym availability and volunteer support.

Recreation registration is open from early September until 11:45pm on November 3rd, or when capacity limits are reached. There is an early bird discount for the elementary, junior and middle school leagues that ends October 15th.

Travel

These are meant to be competitive teams that play against other area towns in the River League (girls) and Merrimack Valley League (boys). These teams are chosen through an evaluation process that takes place in September and October.

Travel players may choose to also play in Recreational Leagues.  Those playing in both leagues are eligible for a refund after both seasons start.

*To be eligible to play on a travel team, your child must either (a) live in Westford or (b) go to school in Westford and have a parent that works for Westford schools. This is a travel league rule not a WYBA rule.

Instructional Program Descriptions

Little Hoopers

Who: Boys and Girls in Kindergarten

When: Sundays (1 hour)

Where: Crisafulli

Length: 8 weeks starting in January and ending in February

Fee: $115

The program is designed to introduce children to the world of basketball and begin to teach the skills to enjoy the game. Tiny Hoopers is specifically tailored for kindergarten-aged children with a focus on fundamental skill development, teaching the basic rules and concepts of the game, team-work, confidence building, and having fun!

 

Shooting Stars

Who: Boys and Girls in 1st Grade

When: Sundays (1 hour)

Where: Crisafulli

Length: 8 weeks starting in January and ending in February

Fee: $115

This program is meant to introduce the game of basketball and begin to teach the skills needed to enjoy the game.  As the session progresses, short games will be introduced.

Hot Shots (Girls)

Who: Girls in 2nd and 3rd Grade

When: Sundays (1 hour)

Where: Miller

Length: 8+ weeks starting in January and ending in March.

Fee: $115

Players will be placed on teams.  A portion of the time will be used for instructional skills and drills followed by a game each week. (Note: 3rd grader who have some basketball experience and want to play up in the Junior Girls Rec (4th-5th grade) division may register in JRG with division director approval.)

Hot Shots (Boys)

Who: Boys in 2nd Grade

When: Saturdays (1 hour)

Where: Miller

Length: 8+ weeks starting in January and ending in March.

Fee: $115

Teams will have high school coaches, supervised by adult volunteers.  Players will be placed on a team after evaluations.  Evaluation nights will be in November.  Teams will be announced in late November/early December with games starting shortly thereafter.  The season ends in early March.

*There will be no practices or games during winter break.  There will be no practices during February break and no game the first weekend of February break. However, there are games the second weekend of February break.

Junior Rec Girls (JRG)

Who: Girls in 3rd, 4th and 5th Grade (NEW! We are adding an option for 3rd graders to also participate in JRG!)

When: 1 Saturday morning game (1 hour), 1 weekday practice (1 hour)

Where: Crisafulli (games only)

Length: December to early March

Length:  Mid-Jan to Late Feb (6 weeks)

Fee: $100

This league consists of just games, and no practices. Players will be placed on a team. Teams will be formed after evaluations, if needed. The season ends in late February.

Seniors who meet participation requirements will receive the coveted WYBA Senior Hoodie.

High School Boys (HSB)

Who: Boys in 9th, 10th, 11th, 12th Grade

When: TBD - Weekday night games (1 hour once per week occasionally twice per week)

Where: Stony Brook

Length:  Mid-Jan to Late Feb (6 weeks)

Fee: $100

This league consists of just games, and no practices.  Players will be placed on a team after evaluations.  Evaluation nights will be in January. The season ends in late February.

Where: Practices are usually at Crisafulli or Blanchard.  Home games are usually at Blanchard.  Away games are within 30 minutes of Westford.

Length: October to March

Fee: TBD depending on River Valley fees.

Travel tryouts are held in early October.  There are a limited number of travel spots.  Players are asked to register for tryouts (no charge).  There may be several tryout dates and callbacks before the final team is assembled.  Teams are finalized in mid October and practices begin.  Games run from November to March.
