H.S. Referees Application 2023-24

Grade 9-12 students seeking to referee in the WYBA:

Please read this overview. 

The WYBA has had much success using high school students as referees for the younger grade divisions.  This year, we will use student refs for the ESB (3rd-4th boys), JRB (5th-6th boys), and JRG (4th-5th girls).  The ESB teams play on Saturday, the JRB teams play on Sunday, and the JRG teams play on Saturday morning.  Each game is approximately 1 hour.  If selected to referee, you will receive $15 per game.

Please note that you will be required to attend training session(s).  Failure to attend will exclude you being selected as a referee.

Expectations:

• Know the rules of basketball
• Come to your assigned game 5-10 minutes early
• Be in the correct position on the court
• Keep the game under control, but also moving as the games are scheduled to an hour
• Make an effort to explain infractions to the players so they can learn

We recommend that you apply only if you’re passionate about basketball and are willing to make a serious commitment to refereeing.
